Who has won Asia Cup earlier? How india will perform in Asia Cup?

Asia cup is going to start and Team India has started the training sessions . Dhoni & co is optimistic and wanted to do well and settle with a final 15 or even final 13 members who can play in the world cup. Only advantage India has that the world cup is going to held in the subcontinent.

Ok. Let see how India have done in the Asia cup . The recent time when India won the Asia Cup is 1994/95 and reached finals in 2008 and lost to Srilanka.

Here is the list of winners of the Asia cup,

Series results

And the overall team performance of each teams in Asia cup is

Team Span Mat Won Lost Tied NR %

Sri Lanka 1984-2008 36 26 10 0 0 72.22
United Arab Emirates 2004-2008 4 0 4 0 0 0.00

India would have qualified for finals for most of the time but they err in the finals..

The following shows that India is prone to Srilankan attack when it comes to Asia cup..

By opposition team
Team Mat WonDescending Lost Tied NR W/L Ave RPO HS LS
India 15 7 8 0 0 0.87 35.72 5.02 310 173
v Sri Lanka
India 8 3 4 0 1 0.75 32.67 5.01 308 169
v Pakistan

So Srilanka is the dangerous opponent than Pakistan at least  in Asia cup.

Indian fans , Better expect Sri lanka not to qualify for the finals. (And pray for India to qualify for the finals too 😉 )

Look at the Win/Loss percentage , India is in 7th position and is in 6th position leaving out the associate member(Netherlands)

When comparing with the no. of wins india comes second with 16 wins but Australia managed 27 wins with just a played a game more than India.

Ok , Lets see how Teams fared in India where the major part of the World cup is going to held,

Overall figures
Team Mat WonDescending Lost Tied NR W/L Ave RPO HS LS
India 14 7 6 0 1 1.16 42.46 6.15 414 170
Australia 6 4 2 0 0 2.00 37.75 5.34 350 250

Sri Lanka 5 1 3 0 1 0.33 37.50 6.22 411 239

Here too India’s Win/Loss % less than Australia and don’t forget Australia won the ODI series with less experienced players (remember Sachin’s lonely knock of  175 in Hyderabad Scorecard)

So i leave it to you people to tick your pick on who will win the WC… 🙂
